Epoxy Live Edge Charcuterie Boards

supply list:

    • We used a 1 1/8″ thick black walnut live edge plate

Step 1:

Choose a piece of live edge lumber or a slab of wood that is at least 1″ thick.

Step 2:

Remove any bark from the edge of the wood by scraping it.

Step 3:

Use a table saw to cut a groove in the board. When adjusting the height of the saw blade, it should be no more than 1/2″ deep for this type of cast. For this technique, measure the width you want the groove to be. We made a 1″ wide groove. Move the table saw mount 1/8″ for each pass until you reach the desired width.

Step 4:

Use a sanding block to sand the groove. Start with 80 grit sandpaper and then use 100 grit. Remove any dust from the surface of the wood when you're done.

Step 5:

Attach tape to each end of the groove and seal tightly to prevent the epoxy from seeping through.

Step 6:

Mix the epoxy in a 1:1 ratio. We use the Ecopoxy UV casting kit for thin castings, which is a food safe product and is great for projects like sausage boards or table tops.

Step 7:

Pour a portion of the clear, mixed epoxy into a mug, stir and set aside.

Step 8:

Place a scoop of the color pigment in a measuring cup along with the epoxy resin. Mix well.

Step 9:

Slowly pour the epoxy down the groove until you get close to the top of the wood panel.

Step 10:

In the beaker of epoxy you set aside, add a small amount of the same pigment and mix, then pour into the groove to create a texture trace effect within the groove.

Step 11:

Use the heat gun or torch to burst the air bubbles.

Step 12:

Allow the panel and epoxy to dry for at least 48 hours.

Note: The Ecopoxy UV Pour Kit is typically used for 1/4″ pours and our depth is 1/2″ so this project has a longer drying time.

Step 13:

Once the epoxy is completely dry, remove the tape from each end.

Step 14:

Use the random orbit sander and 80 grit sandpaper to sand the wood surface, then sand with 120 grit and finish with 220 grit.

Step 15:

Put water on the epoxy area and use a high grit wet sandpaper to buff out scratches. We used 1500 grit paper.

Step 16:

Wipe the surface clean with a damp cloth and allow to dry completely.

Step 17:

Using a clean, dry rag, apply food-grade beeswax to the entire sausage board.

Step 18:

Using another dry rag, wipe excess wax off the surface and buff the board, applying pressure in small circular motions. The harder you press, the more it shines.

Step 19:

Let it dry then you can add a second coat of beeswax or leave it as is.

Epoxy Dutch & Puddle bed tray

supply list:

   • We used Pearl, Ocean, Bahama, Pineapple, Parrot, and Royal Violet powder pigments.

Step 1:

Prepare the bed shelf surface by cleaning it with rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth.

Step 2:

Use hot glue to seal the inside of the shell to keep epoxy from seeping through.

Step 3:

Prepare the epoxy by mixing hardener and epoxy resin in a 1:1 ratio.

Step 4:

Pour some of the epoxy mixture into a large plastic cup and add the Ecopoxy powder pigment in Pearl. Now pour most of this mixture into the center of the sheet and spread it out with your hands so that it reaches all the edges.

Step 5:

Heat the surface with your flashlight or heat gun to burst the air bubbles.

Step 6:

Separate the remaining clear epoxy into five smaller 2ox cups and mix in your choice of Ecopoxy powder pigments.

Step 7:

Puddle Pour the colored epoxy onto the surface. That means pouring one color at a time and layering the circles on top of each other.

Step 8:

Pour the remaining bead-epoxy mixture around the outside of your puddle pour.

Step 9:

Starting with a blow dryer on one side of the puddle, air pour the white resin through the colors until it covers about half of the puddle. Then do the same from the other side. Repeat this until you have spread the colors over the surface.

Step 10:

When you are happy with your design, use a heat gun or torch to burst the air bubbles. Let it dry in a dust-free room for 24 hours before using the tray surface.

Dirty color pouring technique on vase

Step 1:

Pour all DecoArt Fluid Art Flow colors into separate cups.

Step 2:

Slowly pour all of your paints into a larger mug, layering them on top of each other as you go.

Step 3:

Insert thumbtacks into the back of the canvas and place one at each corner. Lay the canvas face up on the tarp.

Step 4:

Clean the outside of the vase with a microfiber cloth and rubbing alcohol.

Step 5:

Place a plastic cup on the canvas sitting on the tarp, then place the vase upside down on the cup. The mug holds the vase in place as it lifts it, allowing you to ensure the surface is evenly coated with paint.

Step 6:

Start by slowly pouring the paint cup over the top of the vase. Use a wiggling motion when pouring - this is what's known as the dirty pour technique. The paint colors should curl back and forth.

Step 7:

Allow the paint to drip all over the surface of the vase, then transfer it to the tray by gently grasping the mug that the vase is standing on.

Step 8:

Pick up the canvas and start moving it slowly, rocking it back and forth to allow the paint to flow across the surface.

Step 9:

Leave the canvas and vase to dry for at least 24 hours.

Step 10:

Once the vase has dried, mix your epoxy resin in a 1:1 ratio of resin and hardener. Mix for 5 minutes.

Step 11:

Pour the epoxy mixture over the vase and use your hands to spread it evenly over the entire vase. This gives it a glass-like finish and protects the paintwork. It is a self-leveling liquid that dries evenly. Just watch them for 30 minutes to catch any drips on the rim of the vase.

Step 12:

Allow the epoxy to dry for another 24 hours before displaying your new dirty paint vase!
