5 Awesome Free or Low-Cost Teacher Events for February 2021

So many of us at WeAreTeachers are still teaching or are ex-teachers. We live and breathe everything around education. This means that our definition of fun often includes learning new teaching strategies, researching the latest educational research, and stalking educational organization websites to see when our favorite educational authors are speaking. Here are 5 great free or low-cost teacher events for February 2021.

AMAZING WELL-BEING Virtual Retreat for Educators

February 6th

We're pretty exhausted. This school year has finally marginalized us all! That's why everything self-care is at the top of our priority list this month. We are very excited about this one day online retreat for teachers. On the agenda? Restorative Yoga, Journaling and Meditation. The work you need to grade can wait. Fill your own cup!

Class Hacks Virtual Educator Book Club

If you love books and want to meet other teachers who do too, then you must come to this virtual book club. Picture of this month: The disappearing half by Brit Bennett. It's one of the best books I've read in the last year. We especially love that the discussion questions are posted before the meeting so we can take notes and find evidence in the text! (Yes. An English teacher writes that!).

Virtual Conference “Learning and the Brain: The Science of Teaching During a Pandemic”.

Okay, a big reason this made the list for us is because Dr. Douglas Fisher, author of The Distance Learning Playbook, speaks (this book was a lifesaver this year!). We can't wait to hear him. And yes, this event will share a lot of research, but also a lot of actionable strategies to make online and hybrid learning more fun and engaging for our kids. The session we are most looking forward to is Assessing Minds Online: Using Technology, Feedback, and Formative Assessment.

Virtual ASCD Symposium: Justice in Action

February 24th
Cost: $49.00

We're really looking forward to this one because it's about making equity in our schools more than just another initiative (yes, please!). Also speaking is Kimberely Bryant, the founder and CEO of Black Girls Code. The two sessions that are on our radar: I Am More Than What You See: Strategies for Truly Knowing Me and Promoting Justice Amid Multiple Crises. We love strategies because we can use them right away in our classrooms, and we need all the help we can get with pandemic education!

Mindfulness Within: Virtual Class for Mindful Teachers

February 24, 4:00-4:30 EST
For free!

If you're short on time and don't want to spend money, this is for you. In this teacher-only virtual session, you'll learn meditations and in-the-moment skills to help you re-center and stay calm in stressful moments. We have a feeling everyone will feel a lot better afterwards! You can also pass on what you have learned to your students.
