DIY Faux Copper Planter for Upscale Industrial Decor

The great thing about DIY projects is that with a little creativity and a few supplies, you can turn any old object into something beautiful! Take that old silver bucket you have in the garage, for example. Have you ever thought of turning it into something like a faux copper planter? With just a few materials and a little time, we'll show you how to repurpose that old bucket to turn it into a textured copper planter that will complement any plant you bring into your home.

supply list:

  1. a bucket
  2. Rustoleum Copper Metallic Spray Paint
  3. DAP Acrylic Latex Silicone Gasket
  4. bowl of water
  5. Marker or object with a round tip
    • We opted for a Sharpie.

Step 1:

Start by covering your bucket with the DAP silicone gasket. Apply thickly, smooth over the entire surface and rub in with your fingers.

Step 2:

Once the bucket is covered, dip your fingers in the bowl of water and rub the water across the surface of the bucket. The goal is to smooth out the silicone caulking so it's even.

Step 3:

Let the bucket dry for about an hour.

Step 4:

Take the marker or round object and dip it in water and then press it into the caulk. Use small, circular motions to expand the circles as you press the marker into the surface.

PRO TIP: If you make a mistake, use more grout and water to smooth it out.

Step 5:

Repeat the process with the marker until you achieve the look you want. The placement and pattern of the circles is up to you. For a more textured look, keep the circles close together.

Step 6:

Allow the bucket to dry for 24 hours before using it again.

Step 7:

Once the bucket has dried take your Rustoleum Hammered Copper Metallic spray paint and use it to cover the entire surface.
