Creative architects, designers, and homeowners willing to try new ideas have shown us fun and creative ways to reconnect with nature even when we're forced to stay indoors. There is absolutely no doubt that a global pandemic that has largely kept us indoors for over two years has had a profound impact on home design and decoration trends. People are once again embracing brighter, happier, more open homes that invite light and create a healthier lifestyle. It is this journey that has helped the world rediscover the magic of glass blocks.

glass blocks or glass bricks, has existed in some form for a long time. Even before their first official arrival in the early 90's, glass blocks were seen sporadically in various forms around the world. Replacing traditional windows in bathrooms, glass blocks bring a multitude of benefits. Glass blocks are one of the hottest design trends of 2022. And few places in your home benefit from them as much as the modern bathroom. It's time to reconsider your glass options!

The 80's love of glass

The first glass blocks used in the construction of houses and commercial buildings may date back to the early 1900's, but it wasn't until the 70's and 80's that they really became famous. To take things a notch higher, you even had the option colorful glass blocks; something that fits perfectly into the bright, loud and bold look of the decade. Glass bricks were soon a thing of the past and the polished finishes of the '90s made them an embarrassing memory. Like so many other trends, glass blocks have made another comeback almost 40 years later and it is the bathroom where they are most favored.

Diffused light and privacy

Yes, glass blocks look equally good in any room in your home - from the entryway, to the living area, to the kitchen and patio. And we promise we'll share these inspirations with you later. But it's the bathroom where they seem to be most effective, as they let in plenty of natural light while still offering complete privacy. The diffused light from the glass blocks is not too bright and creates different light and shadow patterns throughout the day. Unlike typical glass walls for the shower, you do not need additional curtains here, which is very practical when space is limited.

Energy efficient and safe

The benefit of glass blocks goes far beyond a balance between natural light and privacy. These bricks are also much sturdier than your traditional glass windows or floor to ceiling glass walls. Modern glass bricks are much, much stronger than the early blown glass versions of brick and this automatically improves your home's security. Then you also have the added benefit of a material that offers insulation many times better than some of the top rated glasses on the market. By reducing heating and cooling costs, glass blocks help improve your home in more ways than one!
