We Love How These SEL Resources Bring Empathy and Kindness to Your Classroom
We love how these SEL resources bring empathy and kindness into your classroom
Understandably, this year the focus is on social-emotional learning. And Red Nose Day's Everyday Heroes program can help. It's packed with resources and activities for both school and home learning. Build empathy and strengthen class community with fun activities that celebrate student kindness. The program is designed to allow teachers and parents to work together.

For your class

Begin with the Empathy Building Lesson Routines. Next, look at the nomination form. Here your students can think of people they know who are kind, considerate, and helpful. There is an editable classroom poster to celebrate the nominated students.
For the families of your students

Because learning doesn't stop at school, we've created an easy and fun way for students to maintain their kindness routines at home. There is a letter to parents and a poster for families to hang on their fridges. The poster includes a list of ideas for how children can be kind and caring and a fill-in sheet to keep track.
Here are some more ideas for using these resources at school and at home.
Face a challenge for everyday heroes
Kids can track when they're being empathetic and kind with the Fridgable poster. In morning meetings or in circles, ask students to share what they do at school and at home. Celebrate the children and give them certificates.
Create a word wall for everyday heroes
Empathy is a new word for many children. As you start talking more about what empathic people do and say, start a word wall for everyday heroes. Like an anchor chart, visual reminders in the classroom will remind students what it means to be kind and show empathy.
Help children think with writing prompts
As children begin to really establish a routine of empathy and kindness in the classroom and at home, give them an opportunity to reflect on their experiences with handwriting. We love: "I want to get better at being an everyday hero by doing _____."
